Mr. Walt Klier Memorial Scholarships
![]()
Partnering with the District 96 Band & Orchestra Boosters, the Foundation awards partial scholarships to the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lakes, Michigan. Each year, five students will spend two weeks during the summer with musicians from all over the country. They participate in master classes, rehearsals, performances, and fun activities. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to experience music with new people, make new friends, and spend two great weeks playing their instruments.

This scholarship is in honor of Mr. Walt Klier (pronounced “clear”) who was the Booster president back in the late 90′s when he was tragically killed in an automobile accident. His family established this scholarship so his tireless work and dedication to the district’s band & orchestra program will live on.

The 2013 recipients are Rowena Bakke (6th Grade-Cello), Heather Jeon (6th Grade-Flute) and Yenna Kim (6th Grade-Oboe) of Twin Groves Middle School, plus Kaylee Brady (6th Grade-Viola) and Min Hee Joo (7th Grade-Clarinet) of Woodlawn Middle School.
The 2012 recipients were Kevin Acuna (7th Grade-Trombone), Hannah Rose Berman-Schneider (6th Grade-Alto Sax), Albert Cao (6th Grade-Cello) and Jessica Yao (7th Grade-Violin) of Woodlawn Middle School, and Samarth Madduru (6th Grade-Tenor Sax) of Twin Groves Middle School. Congratulations to all!
