Crystal Apple Award Details

The Foundation hosts its annual Crystal Apple Awards dinner each spring, to honor  individuals and organizations that have demonstrated outstanding commitment and dedication to helping District 96 children learn and grow including:

1.  Devote themselves to activities or initiatives that help students reach their maximum potential.
2.  Routinely give of themselves beyond what is expected, going “beyond the call of duty.”
3.  Exemplify the spirit of partnership between school and community.
4.  Recognize a need and respond to it.
5.  Enhance children’s learning with creativity and enthusiasm.
6.  Are never too busy to volunteer their time and talent.

Nominations are accepted for current and retired staff, volunteers, youth, seniors, groups, local area merchants and other adult community members.

Know someone or a local area merchant that displays several of the above characteristics?  Great!  Help us identify these wonderful community members or organizations by nominating them for one of the Crystal Apple Awards listed below:

FRIEND OF THE DISTRICT AWARD
This category recognizes the important role that businesses play in high-quality school districts.  The Friend of the District Award recognizes an individual or organization that exemplifies the true spirit of a school/business partnership.

VOLUNTEER’S VOLUNTEER AWARD
The school district benefits from the efforts of hundreds of volunteers.  Whether working in the learning center, serving on the local PTO, participating on citizen’s study committees, or helping with fund-raising projects, these people are never too busy to lend a hand to do “one more thing.”  This award recognizes individuals who model the “can do” volunteer spirit.

SHINING RED APPLE AWARD
Good schools are a reflection of their community. District 96 has a long and rich tradition of involving community members.  Occasionally, there is an opportunity, event, or task that becomes a defining moment and leaves a legacy for generations.  The Shining Red Apple award recognizes the important role that community members play in the success of our schools.

RED SCHOOLHOUSE AWARD (certified staff)  & THE FRANK ROSAS RED SCHOOLHOUSE AWARD (non-certified staff)
Educating children is a labor of love and is never a 9 to 5 job.  It takes an incredible amount of sacrifice, concern, and commitment to develop the whole child.  Some special individuals exhibit that kind of devotion.  The Red Schoolhouse Award is given to a District employee who consistently goes beyond the call of duty.

CHAMPIONS FOR CHILDREN AWARD
Some amazing individuals have committed their lives to the betterment of children.  Not always, but often, they hold jobs outside of education.  This award recognizes those who have devoted themselves to the causes, activities, or initiatives that help children in public school reach their full potential.

PRESIDENT’S AWARD
The community includes citizens who see a need and respond to it, without thought of personal gain or recognition.  The President’s Award is given to an individual selected by the Foundation who contributes unselfishly to improve or enrich his or her community.

RISING STAR AWARD
This award recognizes high school students that go far beyond what would normally be expected of them.  They are the unsung heroes and exceptional workers who deserve to be honored for what they do for others.  These young people are the leaders of the future.

SILVER THREAD AWARD
This award honors a senior member of our community who has made a significant contribution to our school district that enhances the quality of education for our children. This individual recognizes the importance of being a lifelong learner and makes the effort to share himself or herself with children.
